About Melissa
Melissa Ramsdell was recently honored as one of the top nurses in the state of Colorado. She was awarded the 2019 Nightingale Award for an evidence-based research project on delirium. She presented a poster on the topic at the national ANCC Magnet nursing conference as well. She has six years of well-rounded bedside experience on a busy medical/surgical floor. She also has specialized training in stroke care, transplant and geriatric nursing. Melissa graduated from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.
While nursing called to her in mid-life, writing was her first love. Melissa learned from the best at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in New York. She worked as a general news reporter in Chicago. Later, she wrote for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Chicago Tribune and had a monthly column for a nursing magazine. Melissa has published two books on medicine and the environment.
She lives in Denver with her daughter, Rose, a film student at NYU. She recently adopted an adorable and spirited dachshund-mix puppy named Franklin. Melissa is happiest in the mountains. Finishing 1,800 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail is one of her proudest accomplishments.
